Why are the LEDs increasingly used as a light source? This question has many answers:

  • Energy efficiency of LED light sources is significantly higher than that of incandescent and halogen lamps. A continuing research and development in this field enables us to continuously improve the efficiency of LEDs. Efficiency of fluorescent lamps decreases with lower temperatures. LEDs, on the contrary, are ideal for devices operating at low temperatures, such as light bulbs in refrigerators.
  • Diodes are small. LED lamps can be made in such form factors as the MR-16 and GU-10, which are impossible for compact incandescent lamps.
  • With the right power supply circuitry (driver), using high-quality components and the provision of adequate thermal mode life cycle of LED light sources can be up to 35-70 thousand hours, on average, 50 times more than the nominal service life of incandescent lamps in general and 4-16 times longer than most fluorescent lamps.
  • Very easy to change the color of the light emitted by the LEDs. This makes the RGB-LEDs ideal for use in architectural lighting and lighting systems like Mood Lighting (lighting for mood), in which the color of the light emitted must be changed in real time.

One of the promising directions of LED lighting is LED lighting for greenhouses. Now most of the greenhouse lighting systems are used, specifically designed for crop production, high pressure sodium lamps or as they are are called agrarian sodium lamps. However, these lamps have a large disadvantage – only one third of consumed energy is converted into radiation effective for photosynthesis, which means that two thirds of the energy is wasted via excess heat. Usage of LED lighting helps to ensure greater compliance with the emission spectrum of the agricultural lamp spectrum efficiency of photosynthesis, and can significantly reduce energy costs.
